Jason Dufner’s Putter: Cameron Circa 62 No. 6

Jason Dufner smoked a 44-foot putt on the 16th hole to remain in contention and ultimately win a playoff with Ernie Els to notch his first career PGA Tour victory at the Zurich Classic yesterday.

Els was rocking the belly putter (the one he famously wishes would be banned) while Dufner was using an oversized grip (see below for details).

It seems that nearly every tournament these days stars a non-traditional putter in one form or another, doesn’t it?

Jason Dufner’s putter is a Scotty Cameron GSS Circa 62 No. 6 prototype. This putter is a widebody blade with a distinctive “B-back” flange and a  traditional plumber’s neck hosel. The “GSS” stands for German Stainless Steel, a metal popularized (and trademarked!) by Cameron.

Meanwhile, Jason Dufner’s putter grip is an oversized SuperStroke grip, similar to the one popularized by K.J. Choi. SuperStroke grips aim to relax the hands, inhibit wrist breakdown and engage the shoulders for a smoother, more consistent putting stroke.

P.S. Check out our recent report on putter grips for insights on how the grip fits into your own personal putter fitting equation.
