Callaway Nabs Sean Toulon

Callaway Golf Company has busted a big move in the putter world, bringing Sean Toulon into the fold by acquiring his Toulon Design premium milled putter company.

Not only will Toulon act as general manager of Callaway’s Odyssey putters, he will also serve as senior vice president of Callaway Golf. Callaway calls Toulon “an established innovator in the golf industry with more than 30 years of experience.”

Obviously, we are most interested in the Odyssey aspect of this news. It remains to be seen what will become of the Toulon Design brand, and Callaway’s announcement did not indicate whether or not the “Toulon” name will be incorporated into any of its putters. One can imagine a line of high-end milled Odyssey putters “designed by Sean Toulon” or something like that, but so far they are not tipping their hand. There is also no word about how it will all flow with Odyssey’s longtime chief designer, Austie Rollinson.

Chip Brewer, Callaway’s president and CEO, did state, “Sean is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable leaders in the golf equipment industry, and we are excited to have him come aboard to help us continue to lead the putter category with great designs and the highest performing innovations.”

Meanwile, Rollinson tweeted to Toulon, “Looking forward to collaborating with you on some great new designs. #watchoutscotty.”

Our take? Keep your head on a swivel, because Odyssey apparently has something up its sleeve.
