Odyssey to Release White Hot Pro Putters

We were the first to note the curious and impressive trend last year of Odyssey’s discontinued White Hot putters notching victory after victory on the professional circuits. That trend has continued right into 2013, with Brandt Snedeker using a White Hot putter to win the ATT Pebble Beach National Pro-Am last weekend.

So it’s no surprise that Odyssey is jumping on its own bandwagon with a new suite of White Hot putters under the banner of White Hot Pro. In the words of Odyssey: “The wildly popular White Hot insert claimed thirty victories across the worldwide tours in 2012, and Odyssey now introduces an improved version of the insert that brings more consistent sound, feel and performance across the putter face.”

While attending the tournament at Pebble Beach last week, we caught up with Odyssey tour rep Johnny Thompson on the practice green, where we got an early glimpse at the White Hot Pro putters (pictured below). “Some of the top putting talents on the PGA Tour have the White Hot insert in their putters,” Johnny said. “Of all of our insert putters in use on tour, 80 percent have a White Hot insert.”

Why is that? “Feel,” he replied. “It’s soft but with ball speed. A lot of times if you get something really soft, the ball tends to come off slow and sluggish. The White Hot insert has a smooth, milky feel, but it has the pace of a milled carbon steel putter. So the player can get that nice, smooth feel but the ball is carrying out, and they don’t feel like they have to hit it harder.”

The new Odyssey White Hot Pro putters will be available in March starting at $129.
