New Cleveland SmartSquare TFI Putter

TFI_SmartSquare_PutterCleveland Golf is doubling down on its SmartSquare line of putters with the new “TFI” edition, which Cleveland boldly proclaims as “the most advanced putter that the company has ever created.”

TFI, for True Feel Innovation, consists of a milled copper-infused face cap over a polymer insert for enhanced feel. According to Cleveland, this combination of materials “allows for immediate feedback from sound and feel when striking the ball, while the putter’s copolymer insert creates soft feel and consistent speed across the club face.”

The TFI edition also appears to leverage Cleveland’s SmartSquare alignment technology into a next-level design, marrying high-density stabilizing wings with a low-density aluminum body for increased Moment of Inertia (MOI). High MOI translates to greater stability and control over off-center strikes.

As you can see, the wings wrap from the rear of the club head but don’t quite connect with the back of the putter face. Combine that with the sandwiched copper-white-black of the TFI materials, and you’ve got a putter that looks like it came out of a wormhole from the future.

The Cleveland SmartSquare TFI putter ($199) looks and sounds promising. The SmartSquare alignment system is something we’ve found to be effective, and now it’s being enrolled into a putter that offers a compelling set of bells and whistles.

  1. I’m a sucker for tech in putters, but would like to know if this is a toe hang or face balanced putter. From the picture of the shaft location, it is unclear.
